Authentic Jurassic Toarcian Pyrite Ammonite Fossil From Aveyron France Metallic

For sale is this authentic Toarcian Jurrasic pyrite ammonite fossil found in Aveyron France. When a species fossilize, it simply leaves a cavity in its exact shape in the ground, which then slowly fills with minerals from the surrounding ground. Over time, the cavity is filled completely with mineral growth. Once the ground around the cavity is removed or broken up, only the minerals in the cavity remain… in the shape of the original species. For this fossil, the mineral that grew in the cavity was pyrite (also known as “fools gold” or iron disulfide). This gives the ammonite fossil a metallic sort of feel, and leaves a strong fossil that is perfect for collecting! Pyritized ammonites are perhaps the most durable varieties, yet only make up a small percent of the possible compositions. This one has a specific gravity of 4.9 and a refractive index of 1.81. It would be perfect as a gift, used in jewelry, as a teaching tool, display piece, or addition to any collection! Don’t miss out!
