History
Imagine holding in your hand a 110 million year old fossil. Some ammonites are much older than that, up to 450 million years old. Even older than the dinosaurs. In fact, ammonites closely resemble modern squids, octopus and the chambered nautilus. Ammonites were carnivores as well.
The name "ammonite", from which the scientific term is derived, was inspired by the spiral shape of their fossilized shells, which somewhat resemble tightly coiled rams' horns. Pliny the Elder called fossils of these animals ammonis cornua ("horns of Ammon") because the Egyptian god Ammon was typically depicted wearing ram's horns. The Navajo people carried Ammonites in their medicine bags for health and good hunting. During the middle ages Ammonites were called Draconites due to the belief that they came from the heads of dragons. Another name is "snakestone", which was popular among occult circles. In England today, as in ancient history, the Ammonite is considered to be a stone that grants miracles.
Mineralogy
Ammonoids are an extinct group of marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These molluscs are more closely related to living coleoids (i.e., octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species. The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian, and the last species died out during the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. Fossilization is actually a rare occurrence because organic materials tend to decompose and the process requires the relatively quick preservation of bodily remains. Normally, the remains need to be covered by sediment or trapped in resin as soon as possible. However there are exceptions to this, such as if an organism comes to rest in an anoxic (without oxygen) environment at the bottom of a lake. The oldest known structured fossils date from 3.5 billion years ago. There are several different types of fossils and fossilization processes including permineralisation, mold or replacement fossils, compression fossils, resin fossils and trace fossils. Birthstone
Though ammonite is not a birthstone, it has come to relate to the zodiac signs of Aquarius and Cancer.
Metaphysical
The Ammonite is a very powerful earth healing fossil. Its spiral shape symbolizes continual change and evolution. Ammonites have absorbed cosmic energy over eons of time and help to stimulate the life force within. The Ammonite draws off all negative energies. Think of the Ammonite spirals as a filter, drawing in these dense energies which are no longer needed, moving them through the spirals and releasing them as fresh, positive, loving life force energies. Due to this connection with energy, ammonites have been used for activating Kundalini--the concept in Dharma that refers to primal energy (called shakti)--which coils at the base of the spine and is a source of life force or energy. Ammonites are associated with ancient knowledge. Ammonites are primarily associated with the third eye chakra, with a secondary in the root chakra.
Feng Shui
Ammonites are considered a powerful feng shui cure, which basically means that ammonites can shift the energy of any space, be it home or office, to a much higher, better quality of energy. If you have an ammonite, it is best to place it in a bagua area that is either nourished or governed by the earth feng shui element. These are the following areas in your home or office: Southwest, Northwest, West, Northeast, East, Southeast and Center.

About The Seller
My wife and I became rockhounds over 20 years ago when we realized how much we enjoyed looking for crystals that we could use or display in our home. We are intrigued by the metaphysical properties that have been associated with different kinds of minerals as well as their esthetic beauty and collect-ability. You will find rocks all over in and around our home. We decided to use what we have learned about rocks and combine that with our 30+ years of experience each in the graphic arts (photography and styling) to start selling our specimens here on eBay. We do our very best to portray our specimens as close as possible to how they really look.
Whether you have a passion for rocks, are interested in their metaphysical properties or are looking for a collectable or decorative piece, we have a specimen for you.
Check out all our mineral specimens we have for sale.
Thanks for looking!
